CMP Management - Old Town Leander

The City of Leander recently awarded CMP Management, an Austin-based management service provider for professional associations, a $20,000 grant as part of its Old Town Incentive Program after the company committed to relocate to the City’s Old Town District earlier this year.

“CMP is exactly the type of company Leander is looking to attract,” says the City’s Economic Development Director Mark Willis, “they diversify the employment base, bring quality jobs to the City and allow more of our population to remain close to home in regards to their work life.”

CMP Management currently has 18 employees and 24 clients, and owners Carolyn and Joel Price have witnessed 20 percent annual growth at the company over the last five years. Both are pleased with their move to Leander.

“We personally moved to Leander two years ago from Round Rock for a little more space,” said Joel. “We had been commuting back and forth to the Arboretum, and then asked ‘Why?’ Once we found out how convenient and quaint Old Town was, and an opportunity presented itself, we jumped on it. I would say that affordability and a reverse commute for all of our Austin-based employees were the two biggest factors in our decision.”

“With the Austin Community College expansion and other businesses moving to Leander, as well as the Old Town events sponsored by the Leander Chamber of Commerce, this is just the right mix of small town living and opportunity,” said Joel. “To have access to all the Austin offers, coupled with the growth opportunities and affordability of Leander, I think this is a perfect combination.”

The City of Leander started its Old Town Incentive Program in 2016 to spur development in the city’s Old Town District and to encourage small business growth. Companies are able to use the financial assistance for construction or other needed infrastructure such as water lines and sidewalks, or for loans that contribute to increases in district property tax value.

Since 2016 the City has awarded a total of $140,000 in grants to three other Old Town businesses including Casa Costa Bake Shop, Ponyfoot Public House and Texas Office Machines.

When asked about the Old Town Incentive Program, Joel said, “We were thrilled when we found out about the Old Town grant. Having the ability to invest in our location and help rejuvenate Old Town is a huge bonus. The funds really took the sting out of our relocation.”
